Cinnamon and Cardamom Brown Rice

2 cups water
1 (1-inch) piece cinnamon stick
1 cardamom pod
Pinch salt
1 whole clove
Large pinch saffron threads
1 cup brown basmati rice, rinsed for 1 minute in a fine sieve

1. In medium saucepan, bring water, cinnamon, cardamom, salt, clove, and saffron threads to a boil. Add the rice, lower the heat, cover, and simmer for about 45 minutes until rice is tender.
2. Remove the whole spices before serving.
