Al american bbq sauce??

1 cup of ketchup? You mean 1 cup of high fructose corn syrup?? Is there any thing else one can use in place of ketchup?

Just use tomato paste.

Just use tomato paste.

ketchup vs. tomato paste

Ketchup has about 53 grams of sugar in a cup while a cup of tomato paste has about 8 grams. Needless to say, we tried the bbq sauce with the tomato paste on our ribs that we cooked in our smoker. It tasted great! This recipe will be one of our regulars now. It's tough finding good recipes for diabetics that actually taste good. I've been a diabetic for a little while now and it's tough keeping up the fight. I figure I better find foods with low sugars and low carbs or I'll be forced to start taking medication.

ketchup vs. tomato paste

Is it the same amount of paste compaired to Ketchup

BBQ sauce

You could also use tomato puree instead of ketchup. Or a combination of paste and puree. I find it strange that ketchup would be recommended on a diabetes site when there are better alternatives.

BBQ sauce

Instead of ketchup you could use tomato puree or a combination of puree and paste to avoid the added sugar in ketchup. I'm somewhat surprised a diabetes site would recommend ketchup. I you find you need the extra sweetness you can always use a sugar subsistute.

BBQ Sauce

I've made bbq sauce using tomato sauce, vinegar, Brown Sugar Twin, (white will work too), liquid smoke, and whatever flavorings I wanted (ie: cinnamon, maple flavor, onion powder, garlic powder ...) It turns out good. I have been doing it so long, I don't have measurements. But this should give some suggestions for other ingredients leaving out ALL sugars.
