The following noteworthy individuals provide snapshots of the courage, effort, education, and advocacy that make a real impact. As we join together, aiming for the American Diabetes Association’s vision of a life free of diabetes and all its burdens, get ready to meet some new friends.
The diabetes world is packed with people who champion the cause, and each year Diabetes Forecast highlights some of those who are making a big difference. Also deserving of mention is: Chris Dudley, former NBA player, founder of Chris Dudley Foundation and Chris Dudley Basketball Camp for Youth with Type 1 Diabetes, motivational speaker, you-can-do-anything-with-diabetes advocate.
Another good name for the list
Another name to mention, justly famous in the UK, is Steve Redgrave. Redgrave is a British rower who won gold medals at five consecutive Olympic Games from 1984 to 2000 as well as a bronze medal at the 1988 Summer Games, totaling 6 Olympic Medals. He has also won three Commonwealth Games gold medals and nine World Rowing Championships gold medals. He has carried the British flag at the opening of the Olympic Games on two occasions. He is the most successful male rower in Olympic history - all this despite suffering from ulcerative colitis and Type 1 diabetes.
