A Facebook Page in Spanish
The American Diabetes Association has launched a Spanish-language Facebook page to increase awareness of diabetes in Spanish-speaking communities.
The page largely mirrors its English-language counterpart, but it also offers a list of upcoming dates for ADA’s Feria de Salud, a health fair, and Conferencia, an education event conducted entirely in Spanish, plus users’ comments.
The events come under the umbrella of Por Tu Familia, an ADA health campaign that promotes diabetes prevention and healthy lifestyles through Spanish-language books and brochures. Latinos are nearly twice as likely as non-Hispanic whites to have diabetes, according to the latest statistics from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
