Losing Weight May Improve Sexual Function
Diabetes is linked to sexual problems like erectile dysfunction, but researchers report that losing just a little bit of weight can improve the sex lives of men with diabetes. In a small study, obese men with diabetes who ate a low-calorie diet (around 1,000 calories per day) lost 10 percent of their body weight while those on a high-protein diet shed about 5 percent. Both groups of men reported similar improvements in sexual function and desire, as well as in bladder control. After the eight-week study, participants stayed on or switched to the high-protein diet for 44 more weeks, and the benefits of the initial weight loss continued.
