Hyperactivity in Childhood May Raise the Risk of Obesity in Adulthood

Symptoms of attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in childhood may raise the risk of obesity in adulthood, a study found. Adults were asked to recall whether they’d shown symptoms of ADHD, such as inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity, in the past. Heavy adults remembered having more ADHD symptoms as adolescents than their leaner peers. The authors think an inability to control impulses may contribute to overeating and weight gain.
