Heart-Healthy Mediterranean Food
Following the kind of diet enjoyed in Mediterranean countries like Greece and Italy can lower your risk for coronary heart disease and stroke, say researchers. They studied more than 74,500 women between the ages of 38 and 63, none of whom had a history of cardiovascular disease or diabetes. After 20 years of follow-up, the researchers discovered that women who closely followed a Mediterranean-style diet—marked by plenty of olive oil, vegetables, whole grains, and fish—were at a lower risk than women who ate few Mediterranean-type foods. To lower your risk, try the recommendations below.
| EAT THESE | LIMIT THESE |
| Olive oil | Red meat |
| Vegetables | Processed meat |
| Whole grains | Refined grains |
| Legumes (peas, beans) | Sweets |
| Fish |

Mediterranean meals
I was very interested in seeing the recipes for Mediterranean meals as indicated in the article "When in Rome(or Athen) found on page 28 of the June 2009 issue since I enjoy this type of food. However when I tried to log on to the site provided "forecast.diabetes.org/mediterraneanmeals" I found "Page Not Found."
Do you plan on making Mediterranean-type food recipes available on your site?
