"In a race decided by mere hundredths of a second, senior Bentley Gilbert placed 3rd in a blistering final heat of the 100-yard freestyle, a single-heat now known to have qualified 5 of the 16 state finalists in that event. His time of 47.63 claimed one of the ten fastest among all Texas 4-A Regional Championships this year. It shatters his own school record and precedes a shot at the State Championship on February 22-23 in Austin. In a similarly competitive 50-free final, Gilbert placed 6th and improved his own school record with a time of 21.91." - Bentley was diagnosed with Type-I Diabetes at age 8yrs, and took up swimming for exercise.
